Author Guidelines

Bahasa Indonesia: Pedoman Penulis (versi Bahasa Indonesia)

These guidelines apply from Vol. 4 No. 2 (October 2026) onwards. They match the manuscript template; where they differ, these guidelines and the Policies page prevail.

1. Scope and type of manuscript

Dharma Nusantara: Jurnal Ilmiah Pemberdayaan dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat publishes community service articles: scholarly reports of empowerment or community service activities that have been carried out and evaluated. Fields covered: social affairs, education, science, sports, language, and other relevant community service topics (see Focus and Scope and Type of Manuscript).

Manuscripts that only describe how an activity was run, without evaluation data, or that describe activities not yet carried out, are not accepted. Manuscripts are written in Indonesian or English, with abstracts in both languages. Manuscripts must not have been published or be under consideration elsewhere.

2. Files to upload

Every submission must include three files. OJS will not accept a submission until all three are uploaded.

  1. Anonymized Manuscript (required): the full manuscript prepared with the Anonymized Manuscript Template, without names, affiliations, e-mails, or other information that identifies the authors. This file is sent to reviewers.
  2. Title Page and Declarations (required): prepared with the Title Page Template. It contains the title; names, affiliations, e-mails and ORCID iDs of all authors in order; author contributions (CRediT); acknowledgements; funding; and identifying details on ethics, data or conflicts of interest, if any. This file is seen by editors only.
  3. Similarity Report (Turnitin) (required): the full Turnitin report, with a similarity index of no more than 20% excluding quotations and references.

The names, number, order and affiliations of the authors entered in the Contributors step in OJS must be identical to the Title Page. All authors receive a notification e-mail from the system. The full manuscript template (with author details) is used for the final version after acceptance.

3. Manuscript structure

  • Title: no more than 14 words, specific, and reflecting the activity and its main result.
  • Abstrak and Abstract: one paragraph each, 150–250 words, covering the partner’s problem, objective, method, measurable results, and conclusion and impact. No citations, tables or figures.
  • Kata kunci and Keywords: 3–5 words or phrases.
  • Introduction: (a) the context and the partner’s problem, supported by baseline data; (b) the gap between the partner’s current and expected condition, supported by recent primary literature and earlier activities; (c) the proposed solution and its scientific basis; and (d) the objective and contribution of the activity. The contribution may be written as a paragraph or a list.
  • Method: target partner and location, time and duration, number and characteristics of participants, stages of the activity, partner participation, evaluation instruments and success indicators, and data analysis.
  • Results and Discussion: results against the success indicators, before-and-after data, interpretation, and a quantitative comparison table with earlier community service or research. Also discuss strengths, weaknesses, constraints, and sustainability of the programme.
  • Conclusion: a narrative paragraph that answers the objective and states the impact on the partner, limitations, and recommendations for sustainability. No citations.
  • Declarations (see section 5) and References (see section 6).

4. Formatting

  • Use the template; do not change page size, margins or heading styles. Use no more than three heading levels.
  • Place tables and figures near their first mention, number them consecutively, and explain them in the text. Table titles go above tables; figure captions go below figures.
  • Figures must be at least 300 dpi. Photographs showing participants’ faces, especially children, are published only with consent; otherwise faces must be blurred. Figures created or modified with generative AI must be disclosed in the caption.
  • Number equations in parentheses, aligned right.

5. Declarations

Every manuscript must include the seven declarations below. Sections 5.1, 5.3, 5.5 and 5.7 are written in the Anonymized Manuscript; sections 5.2, 5.4 and 5.6 are written in the Title Page.

  1. Use of AI: the name and version of each tool, its purpose, the sections assisted, and a statement that the authors reviewed the output; or a statement that no generative AI was used. AI must not generate data, analyses, results or conclusions, and cannot be an author (Use of AI).
  2. Author contributions (CRediT): each author’s role using the 14 CRediT roles (Authorship Criteria).
  3. Conflict of interest, including relationships with the partner (Conflict of Interest).
  4. Acknowledgements of contributors who do not meet the authorship criteria.
  5. Data availability: one of five statements (Data Availability).
  6. Funding: funder, scheme and contract number; or a statement of no specific funding.
  7. Ethical approval: one of four statements, covering participant consent, partner permission, and parental/guardian consent for minors (Ethical Oversight).

The CRediT, AI declaration and Title Page requirements apply to manuscripts published from Vol. 4 No. 2 (October 2026) onwards. Articles published earlier are not considered in breach of this policy.

6. References

  • At least 25 references; at least 80% primary sources (journal articles, proceedings, books/patents reporting original work) and at least 80% published within the last 10 years.
  • APA 7th edition (author, year), listed alphabetically without numbers, with DOIs where available. Mendeley or Zotero is recommended.
  • Secondary (chained) citations are not permitted; cite the original source.

7. Review process

Manuscripts are screened by an editor (desk review), and the result is sent within 7 days. Manuscripts that pass are reviewed double-blind by at least two reviewers within 4 weeks. Authors revise within 2 weeks. Details are in Peer Review Process. Issue dates and submission deadlines are in Publication Frequency.

8. Copyright, licence and fees

Authors retain copyright, and articles are published under the CC BY-SA 4.0 licence (see the Copyright Policy and Licensing Policy). Fees are described in Author Fees.

9. Checklist before submitting

Before clicking Submit, make sure every item in the Submission Checklist is met. Manuscripts that do not meet them are returned to the authors at desk review.
